First step: assessment
You have made that first important step by considering help, you don’t have to make any decisions just yet but when you are ready the next steps are explained below. This information is explained in detail for people asking for help for the first time, but I welcome new and old clients equally.
To book an initial consultation you can contact me to request a initial consultation (please indicate preferred times and days). I offer day time and evening appointments.
This initial session will last 60 minutes. It will give each of us a chance to get to know each other and to see if this is a good fit for you. Upon booking your appointment you will receive a confirmation email or telephone call if needed, to confirm time, date and details about the appointment.
Assessment usually takes between one and three sessions. At the end of the assessment sessions I will offer a psychological understanding of your difficulties and discuss whether therapy will be helpful. I will then identify needs and goals and make a plan for therapy sessions which is reviewed on an ongoing basis.
Therapy
Therapy sessions take place on a regular basis and each session lasts for 50 minutes. I will guide the treatment and format of the sessions, asking questions, presenting ideas and psychological knowledge. I may also introduce exploratory exercises, and encourage you to continue these outside of sessions.
Progress towards the goals of therapy is monitored continually and openly shared. The ultimate aim is for you to become the expert at understanding and managing your own difficulties, both now and for the future.
Leaving Therapy
As a Clinical Psychologist, I adhere to a strict Code of Ethics as outlined by the British Psychological Society, and therefore aim to offer as few sessions as necessary in order for you to reach your treatment goals.
The decision of when and how to end therapy, however, will always be taken jointly with you. I will of course take your funding circumstances into account.
A formal ending session will be arranged, during which you will receive a summary of our work together along with any resources I have worked through and any other helpful information.
